KUANTAN: The opposition must ensure that the proposed rally near Jalan Duta court complex on Monday does not turn chaotic or else it will prove that they are actually supporting anarchy, said Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan distributing leaflets to help explain the government's initiatives to help the people.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said it was the responsibilty of the organisers to ensure that the participants in the rally, in support of Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, adhere to the rules and regulations set by the police.
"They should appreciate the government's decision to allow peaceful rally and should not jeopardise the peace and stability in the country," he told reporters after distributing leaflets on subsidies and 1Malaysia concept at various locations here yesterday.
He believed that the opposition were now in difficult situation after the government allowed them to hold a peaceful demonstration.
"They were "checked mate" as their actual plan was to hold street protest and show their strength. They also want to create massive traffic jam and hope that the police will chase and beat them so that the news will appear in foreign media," he said.
Ahmad said the opposition would never allow the country to remain peaceful as it would make it difficult for them to win in the next general election.
On his walkabout programme yesterday, Ahmad said many of the people he met did not know about the subsidies that the government had provided apart from the much-publicised fuel subsidy.
"They were shocked when I explained that for each cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) they bought, the government will pay RM21.42 subsidy," he said.
Ahmad, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) Publicity and Information Bureau chairman, said the coalition's information machinery would hold more meet-the-people sessions and distribute leaflets to help explain the government's initiatives to help the people.
He said the public could enjoy more RM22 billion subsidies yearly because the BN government was a smart and responsible government which would always find ways to maintain the prices of essential items.
On the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Sdn Bhd, Ahmad said more programmes would be held as to explain to Felda settlers and the public on the benefits that they would get from the listing plan.
He said the Koperasi Peneroka Felda extraordinary general meeting would only be held after its members fully understood the whole listing initiative and its benefits to them.
