Ahmad: Govt not fishing for votes by helping people

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The granting of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), 1Malaysia Book Vouchers (BB1M) and the RM100 student aid are not aimed at fishing for votes in the general election.
The various forms of aid were solely to help reduce the burden of the people, said Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
“They (Opposition) run down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razakin their talks by saying all assistance this year are for the coming general election,” he said after an informal session organised by the Kampung Raja Umno branch here yesterday.
He said the Government’s success in implementing various forms of assistance such as BR1M and the RM100 student aid had incurred the jealousy of the Opposition, causing them to slam the Government.
“The assistance was given to all races based on the principle of People First, Performance Now and the aim is to reduce the people’s burden.
“The transformation brought by Najib today is beginning to make the Opposition lose its direction as the people caring programme by our leaders is effective and this resulted in the Opposition making wild accusations like what they are doing now,” he added.
