Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan, recently noted that a village's success in winning the awards would cause it to be seen as an exemplary settlement for other villages to model after. This, in turn, served to elevate the overall living standards in rural areas.
Ahmad, who is also the member of parliament for Pontian, was speaking at Kayu Ara Pasong here before presenting the excellence awards to seven participating villages.
Kampung Puteri Menangis emerged as the champion, winning RM25,000. The first runner-up prize of RM15,000 went to Parit Haji Omar, while second runner-up Parit Marjunit won RM5,000.
The other four villages of Parit Makuaseng, Parit Haji Yasin, Permatang Palas and Parit Sikom each received consolation prizes of RM2,000.
