THE long wait by Mukim Benut residents to enjoy a children’s playground has finally become a reality following the completion of a RM100,000 1Malaysia recreational playground by the office of the Pontian member of parliament.
The playground is located beside a canal and road in front of the Kampung Parit Haji Ariff neighbourhood.
Residents from nearby Permatang Palas, Lubok Sipat, Permatang Sepam and other villages are set to benefit from this new facility.
Mukim Benut penghulu  (community head) Jabal Kiman hoped the facility would be utilised by residents to the fullest.
However, he also hoped parents would always monitor their children when they play there.
“Let us all maintain this playground in order for it to be used in the long-term,” he said after the playground was opened by Datin Noraini Sulaiman, who is the wife of Pontian member of Parliament Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
Noraini, in her speech, reminded parents to monitor their children whenever they brought them out to play.
“I hope parents could monitor their children and not allow them to play on their own.
“Residents must also take care of this facility to prevent it from being vandalised,” she said.
Housewife, Rabitah Othman, 31, said she was happy her children could now play in a specific place instead of places like open fields previously. She  was thankful to Ahmad  for being sensitive to the needs of his constituents.
