Hari E-Dagang Malaysia Steel Institute

Hari e-Dagang Malaysia Steel Institute MSI di Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (MITI).

Sarapan bersama Dato Nik dan Jarrod Lim.

Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Y. Bhg. Dato Nik Rahmat Nik Taib
Deputy Secretary General (Industry) of MITI
Chairman of MSI

Mr Jarrod Lim

Distinguished speakers from MIDF, MATRADE, SME BANK, HONG LEONG BANK, HELP University

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good Morning.

I feel privileged to have been invited for this memorable event, the first of its kind in exposing eCommerce specifically tailored to the Iron & Steel industry players. Let me first wish all of you a warm welcome, and secondly offer congratulations to Malaysia Steel Institute (MSI) for successfully organizing this eCommerce Day for the Iron & Steel Industry in Malaysia.

MSI is a Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) certified training provider. This is the 2nd phase of the specifically Human Resource Development for the Iron & Steel Industry, where in December 2016, MSI launched its 4-phase HRD program. In the first phase, training was conducted on Occupational Safety and Health or in short called, OSH. Today is the start of MSI 2nd phase on eCommerce.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

The Government is all for Human Capital Development and moving companies to greater use of eCommerce. Please allow me to deliberate a little on the Government’s initiatives to promote eCommerce:

Malaysia established the National eCommerce Council headed by MITI in December 2015 to accelerate the growth and development of eCommerce in the country.

The Council also acts as the platform to guide the governance and implementation of the National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap (NeSR), involving 22 key Ministries and agencies in six thrust areas namely:

Accelerate SMEs adoption of eCommerce;

Increase adoption of eProcurement by businesses;

Lift non-tariff barriers (i.e. domestic eFulfillment, cross-border eCommerce, ePayment and consumer protection);

Realign existing economic incentives;

Strategic investments in selected eCommerce players; and

Promote national brands to boost cross-border eCommerce.

The on-going implementation of the Roadmap is expected to further enhance the eCommerce annual growth rate in Malaysia to reach more than 20% (as compared to 10.8% in 2016), with GDP contribution reaching as high as RM211 billion.

This year has also been announced as the “Year of the Internet Economy for Malaysia”. Contribution of digital economy to Malaysia’s GDP rose from 16.4% in 2013 to over 17.0% in 2015. This achievement already meets the 2020 goal that Malaysia set, back in 2011. Our challenge is to accelerate this process in tandem with the rapid speed in which the world is “digitising”.

The recent launch of the world’s first Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) on 22 March 2017 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia together with Mr. Jack Ma, founder and Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, will further provide a conducive environment for companies anchored on the internet economy.

Implementation of the National eCommerce Roadmap strategies will help to further achieve the development of the DFTZ in Malaysia which in turn provides conducive environment for companies anchored on the internet economy.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

This eCommerce Program has been carefully crafted, aims at bringing together the MITI and its agencies and Iron & Steel players to introduce the facilities and services provided by MITI & its Agencies on eCommerce application by businesses, adoption & adaption with better technologies and improvement of current practises via eCommerce.

As you are aware, eCommerce is a tool to enhance Business to Business (B2B) dealings that will help increase business volume locally and regionally via exports. The iron & steel producers as we understand are competitive but not there into exporting yet. We should make use of this e-based platform as a tool for our business growth.

Finally,at a macro level, the increased use of eCommerce will assist the country narrow the trade deficit gap, for the Iron & Steel Industry.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Grab this opportunity for your business advancement by fully and actively engaging during the sessions to gain the maximum.I wish all for fruitful discussions, positive outcomes from this program that will benefit all of us.

Last but not least, I strongly encourage for you to continue showing support for Malaysia Steel Institute programs and help to bring the industry to greater achievements.

Thank you.

Keynotes Adress UTM Career Carnival 2017

Good Afternoon, Salam Muafakat Johor and Salam 1Malaysia.

YBhg Prof. Datuk Ir Dr Wahid Omar

Vice Chancellor,
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

YBhg Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohd Ismail Abd Aziz
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni),
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Othman Bin Ibrahim
UTM Career Center (CC)

Saudara Muhammad Rusydi bin Hassim
Director of UTM Career Carnival 2017

Sponsors, Exhibitors and representatives from the industry,

Members of the Media,

Students, Ladies and Gentlemen.

1. It is a great pleasure and honour for me to be here with you today at the UTM Career Carnival 2017. I would like to thank Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar, the UTM Vice Chancellor for his kind invitation to this program. Next, I would like to give my heartfelt congratulations and thank to the UTM Career Centre committees and the team for organising the UTM Career Carnival 2017.

2. These days, the countries in South East Asia, including Malaysia, are currently bracing for the impacts of the global economic recession. For the fresh graduates, the immediate future is fraught with difficulty due to the fall in demand.

3. However, I can optimistically say that our students still have many great opportunities to work and restore the nation’s economy. Amidst the uncertainty of the recovery of Malaysia’s economy, I am really pleased to see that UTM has placed great importance on graduate employability and continued to launch this annual event to help our young people to achieve their career goals in the future.

4. The statistics provided by have showed that job postings in October 2016 has decreased by 35%, as compared to October 2015. The significant decrease in job opportunities will definitely increase the unemployment rates as the number of graduates continues to increase. According to the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, there are 161,000 graduates aged between 20 and 24 years old who have yet to find a job.

Ladies and gentlemen,

5. In this case, the career fair can serve as a good platform for the students to kick-start their careers as it equips our students and job seekers alike with comprehensive and latest information on training and career openings under one roof. They can communicate up close with the industry representatives and establish a closer engagement between themselves and the industries.

6. Organising a career carnival is indeed a brilliant step as it can give great impacts to the universities, the graduates and the nation. UTM has always been known as one of the top universities in Malaysia and this is the best time for them to demonstrate their high quality graduates to the industries.

7. Meanwhile, the graduates and alumni can certainly use this opportunity as their preliminary pre-recruitment activity and sourcing tool in obtaining a suitable job in the future. Our country also needs such career fairs to boost graduate employability and solve the youth unemployment issue.

8. Therefore, I really hope to see that more tertiary institutions can develop and have their own career centres that reaches out to fresh graduates and alumni to help them secure a job as well as to strengthen our nation’s workforce.

9. In closing, I wish the UTM Career Carnival 2017 the best success and you all a wonderful and fruitful event. Once again, thank you all so much for your time and participation in the UTM Career Carnival 2017.

Ladies and gentlemen,

10. On that final note, I officially declare the opening of the UTM Career Carnival 2017.

Thank you.

Majlis Transformasi Kesejahteraan Bumiputera (TKB) oleh YAB Perdana Menteri, Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak satu lambaran berwajah baharu ke arah perjuangan memperkasa agenda Bumiputera.
